United We Dance

A special thank you to all that attended the 2008 Party.

With over 350 party goers we managed to raise $3300

for the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (VGLRL).

Pictures from the night will be up soon. See you all in 2009.

Quote from Sally Goldner (Treasurer of VGLRL)

“May I also echo thanks already expressed by Stephen & Hayley on behalf of

the VGLRL for your huge support - ultimately United We Dance's contribution

will save at least one life somewhere by reducing discrimination and prejudice.”

United We Dance was born in 2002 as a result of obvious cultural and religious problems in the world following the tragedies of 9/11 and Bali. We as a GLBTIQ multicultural community in Melbourne wanted to set an example and show that we could live in harmony (and party together of course!)

At the same time it was decided that all funds raised on the night would be directed back into our community. Such recipients in the past have been Bent TV, JOY Melbourne, Positive Attitude, the David Williams Fund, the Asia Pacific Outgames and the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council Inc. (AGMC). To date we have raised over $9000 for GLBTIQ charities in Melbourne.

The night is fully organised by volunteers and all performers on the night donate their time. The event is primarily a multicultural dance party and all music and performances have a multicultural GLBTIQ flair. United We Dance has been a recipient of a Rainbow Award for best event for the year and each event attracted over 400 people from all backgrounds.
